We had good discussions at the club meeting this evening, outlining Field Day
2014 which is now 12 days out. First a list operators bands they are capable of
running:
Cass Telles - 10-160 Phone
Craig Szczublewski - 10-80 Digital
Lindsay/Angela Infante - 20/40 Phone
Jim McBride - 40 Phone (Saturday Only)
Bryan Patterson - 6-160 Phone
Steve Stuart - 10-80 CW
Bill Lampe - VHF/UHF and Satellite
We also had an offer to run the GOTA station operations by Trenton Peluso.
So current count, we will be running a 6A since the VHF/UHF are "free" stations
under Field Day guidelines.
Setup:
We have had a few people offer to help for setup and teardown. We would like to
have much of the antenna work wrapped up on Friday, June 27. We are allowed to
start setup work at 00:00 UTC Friday, but are planning on being at the woodlot
around 6:00pm on Friday. For anyone setting up rigs, please plan on bringing
everything you will need to setup your antenna this day (i.e., plenty of CO-AX,
rope, marker tape, etc.). If you are planning on running on the club tri-band
antenna, we will have the trailer on-site on Friday as well. We want to have
the wire antennas as far out to the perimeter of the woodlot as possible to
reduce interference.
Field Day Dinner:
We are planning on having our traditional dinner at 5:30pm on the 268th. KB8ELG
will be providing the main dish (spiral cut ham), but has asked people to bring
a side dish to share. Please coordinate with Bryan if you have questions.
Operations:
We will be using FDLOG again this year to log QSOs and monitor who is operating
on what band. Please remember to bring a laptop. If you do not have one, I
have a few to share for that day. If you are planning on operating, consider
having a "buddy" to log QSOs for you and verify duplicates. This makes the the
process go much smoother if you are new to contesting. I will be giving a
tutorial on that Saturday before 2:00pm to cover proper operation of the
software. Field Day kicks off at 2:00pm and we want to make sure all rigs and
operators are in place and ready to run.
Tear Down:
We could also use help for tear down on Sunday. We cease Field Day operations
at 2:00pm on the 29th. We can always use help taking down antennas, spooling
cable, taking down shelters/tents, and general cleanup. The Roth family is
generous in letting us use their park for our operations, we want to leave it
good condition.
Quick Tips:
1. The Field Day 2014 operating packet can be found here:
http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Field-Day/2014/Field%20Day%20Packet%202014%20v2.pdf
2. Label all of your equipment, cables, power/extension cords, chairs, and
anything else you bring with you!
3. Plan your setup accordingly, know where the power outlets will be and make
sure you have adequate power leads to tap in.
4. Make sure you have some form of shelter, both from the sun and occasional
rain showers. I can tell you from experience that having water tight containers
and quick disconnects can save you a lot of headaches.
Plan on additional communications as the day draws closer.
