CONCEPT AND CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
The Foundation for Amateur Radio plans to host a one-day conference 8
September.
The Washington, D.C, event would bring together the local amateur
radio community and the American Radio Relay League.
At this writing the venue will be the lobby and auditorium of the
Armed Forces Retirement Home. The secure 272-acre campus is at the
north end of North Capitol Street.
The conference, to focus emerging digital technologies in amateur
radio and the issues that result, was proposed only four weeks ago by
Jim Cross WI3N, who is ARRL Maryland-DC Section Manager.
Albert Schramm W3MIV, ARRL Atlantic Division Assistant Director, will
provide information about a recent survey of amateur radio licensees
and present the poll results.
Allan Hubbert KH6ILR of the AF3RH club was instrumental in securing a
space that can support audio-visual needs of panelists and individual
presenters.
At present, the plan is for a full day program with a mid-morning
start and one catered meal. Security requires advance registration;
registration will be determined by the hall capacity. There will be
a registration fee. The program will have three parts: Background
presentations about new technologies and where they stand today in
amateur radio; presentation of the results of a recent poll of
amateur radio licensees; and presentations and panels about what all
this might mean, and what options are, for the future of amateur
radio.
Invited speakers and panelists will be announced when they accept.
The program is being determined now.
For expressions of interest and proposals for presentations, and for
directly-related questions:
