Curtis:

"Quest for Fire" - an interesting metaphor for a meeting at Independent
Hose Company #1. :)

I hope we'll be able to vote on and move forward with migrating to the new
web platform. If you intend to make other motions, it might be helpful if
you would preview those for everybody (especially if you would like to limit
the duration of the business meeting).

I think your offer to provide some basic guidance on computer maintenance /
best practices could be valuable, but it may be better to offer that outside
the club meeting for anybody who may be interested. Malware protection,
firewalls, disk cleanup, backups, etc. are all important topics, but I hope
that club meeting time can be devoted to topics more directly relevant to
ham radio. If others would like to spend this meeting on the proposed web
site redesign and general computer issues, though, no problem.

With that, we have about $.04 in the pot. Anybody else gonna ante up their 2
cents?

73,

Steven, W3SFG

Pre 17 SEP 2012 Meeting Info from Curtis Campbell - KB3WHX -

Just a general member of the Frederick Amateur Radio Club. -

Thank you for taking a look at the FARC Demo Site. As is stated on the site,
if the technology is adopted, there is quite a bit of shine to add to it,
and fresh content. What you cannot see in the background, is the completely
integrated membership tracking, member email system, and a hundred other
things.

It is not known by me at present if there will be a vote on the new web
technology at the meeting on 17 September 2012, but it will be proposed.
To date, I have received e-mail from several folks, and the Polls on the
demo site have all been positive. None negative. If approved, then the first
step of technology upgrades can occur, multimedia, digital media,
collaborative tools, more efficient communication can occur.

Beginning at the meeting on 17 September 2012 All of my efforts and free
time in which I am able to devote to the wonderful hobby of amateur radio,
will be focused on invigorating the FARC.

There is lots of work to do, and lots of apathy that needs to be shaken off.
Trust me, I do not look good in a cheerleader uniform, but if it achieves
the goal... Well, you get the picture. (Not a pretty one at that...
Although as a Scotsman, I have been known to wear a Kilt.)

If you feel that it the FARC was once, and can be again a vibrant, valuable
resource, and socially significant in the future, please join me. I have
made the subject on this message "Quest for Fire" as that is what I am
attempting to ignite. If I cannot, or apathy rules, I will go away, and
keep the fires burning someplace where they desire the fire. I am also going
to make four motions which would need to be voted on, three I am sure will
be fairly popular, the last, not so much. If you have not attended in a
while, this may be the meeting to show up at, catch up on dues, kick the
tires and light the fires. :-)

In the event that we can keep the business side of the meeting short,
(maybe?) I will offer two quick presentations on:

1. General Computer Maintenance & Up Keep

provide links to time proven, simple tools, to keep it ticking.

2. Useful Tools & Software For Portable / Mobile / Other Computer
Usage.(Open Source)

provide links to time proven, simple tools, to keep it ticking.

In the event that a Wi-Fi connection, or a wired network port is available
at IHC#1, I will demo the backend of the new technology, on a netbook, for
those interested.

The following link is provided so that you can get the tools, and numerous
other files, documents, and other relevant information: These are all in my
DropBox which I highly recommend, here is the link:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/p2ytf0srvzcv0jo/o9ighWoal4?m

If you'd like to get the full dropbox, let me know, and I'll share a wealth
of directories and information based on what you're looking for.

I would also recommend reading of this document, also on the dropbox.
