A cousin in Concepcion with sporadic access to e-mail contacted my wife and 
said that all of the family members are OK.  A great relief!  I want to

Hi, Jeff:
A message was circulated here to our hams in the Washington County area, 
regarding the family that wants to contact the father-in-law in Chile. I am 
fluent in Spanish and have a kilowatt station, and am offering to help. 
Conditions to South America have been quite lousy lately, but perhaps we can 
get through. I called the family in Gaithersburg, but only got the message 
machine. So I left my name and number in both English and Spanish, and we'll 
see how it goes. Let me know if there is anything else I need to do.
