This is just an FYI for those of you wanting to erect a Rohn Tower in
Frederick County.

Fortunately, since this was my second tower and I had the first permit in
hand, it seemed to have made the process smoother. They accepted the 25G
engineering drawings from the Rohn catalog. I did not need a wet stamp. I
recommend a personal visit as the staff is very helpful and you get to pay
the fees ($203.00) right on the spot.

The drawings I provided were:

The base
Guying specs for 110 mph - no ice
Anchor specs

I did not address the loading on the tower as it is in the specs. I have
plans to have less than 50% of the allowed loading.
.
When it comes to towers, I believe antennas should not be part of the
permitting process. The biggest concern in Frederick County is the 1:1
setback from the property line.

This wording is from the permit:

"Allowed per section 1-19-6.160B Smoke stacks, masts, water tanks,
monuments. Bulkheads, monitors and scenery lofts, fire towers, hose towers,
cooling towers, grain elevators, gas holders or other structures where the
manufacturing process requires a greater height, radio or television towers
and essential services. Any such structure which exceeds the maximum height
limit otherwise permitted in the district, the distance from its front, side
and rear lot lines shall be no less than the maximum vertical height of such
structures;

that communications tower is to be used for personal Ham radio."

Never use the words "Communication Tower" as that is defined and puts you
into a whole another set of requirements.

I hope some of you will find this helpful. Approval took about 2 weeks -
one day for the tower plans and rest for the zoning section to get around to
it.
