Joe:
6.1 still sounds like Vista to me. We should be looking for 5.2 or anything
that starts with a 5. Just like Windows NT stood for Nice Try, Vista must
stand for something:
VIS-TA - Very Inferior System - Totally Awful (I'm sure you guys can do
better)

I'm still waiting for my pre-beta Windows 7, which I actually understand
will be version 6.1. Windows 2000 is version 5, XP is 5.1, and Vista is 6.
Windows XP mainstream support is scheduled to end: 4/14/2009
Extended support is scheduled to end: 4/8/2014
Extended support basically means just security patches.
Microsoft's lifecycle, while important for some reasons, is less important
for most individual users as the hardware & software community. Even after
most support ended for Windows 98, folks hung on to it, until new computers,
peripherals, and software stopped supporting it. That support doesn't
really have a hard date.
