[FARC] Help with bringing a boat anchor back to life...

I just spoke with my dad and just out of pure curiosity asked him about the
old transmitter and receiver he's got sitting in his living room collecting
dust. I believe (not sure how it happened) that I talked him into letting me
use them once I get my license. The transmitter is a Johnson Viking II and
the Receiver is a National Co NC183d. He says the receiver runs (he's
listened to it a few times over the years) but, he believes the transmitter
has some problems (probably dead tubes or something like that) but never got
it looked at since he's not licensed to transmit. He said that if I wanted
to fix it I could use them since he doesn't.

The last part is my biggest problem. I won't part with them but would like
to fix the transmitter to use once I get all my ducks in a row. I don't'
feel comfortable about digging into it by myself but would love to learn.
So, here's my pitch...

I'd like to get one (or more) of the Elmer's and or electronically inclined
hams in Frederick, or Carroll County to help me restore this Viking II to
working order. I just need some direction and a watchful eye so that I don't
kill myself with the power that's involved with this unit. I can certainly
do the work and whatnot (I own a 95+ lb 1969 Ampeg SVT so this should be
easier to lug around) but, I am obviously a noob and don't want to get
burned (literally or figuratively)!

Any help would be most appreciated,

Anthony
