Kirk,

Before you spend any money on parts, and I don't know how to tell you solve
this, is first be certain that the problem isn't being caused by the antenna
proper radiating into something in your fan system. If that is the case then
all the other stuff woulddn't help one bit because the antenna is doing its
job too well HI.

Its easy to give advice when you can say " I don't know how to tell you how
to pin this down but " HI, thats about the best I can do. I would suggest,
if possible, to move your antenna further from your roof but remember advice
is easy when I don't have to do the work HI.

Take care,

Rolan

Everyone seems to be in agreement. Ferrite beads, cores, choke balun, and
grounding are the cures for radio shack gremlins. Antenna tuners keep the
radio components happy although some experienced hams swear you don't need
them. I read somewhere, an MFJ catalog I think, that you can buy a 1:1
current balun to replace the center insulator of a dipole antenna to help
eliminate RF on the feedline and RF in the shack. Runs about $24.00 I
think. Is this the right device, a "current balun?"

Thanks everyone for all the help. I'll have to rearrange things now and get
working on the grounding.
