Everyone seems to be in agreement.  Ferrite beads, cores, choke balun, and grounding are the cures for radio shack gremlins.  Antenna tuners keep the radio components happy although some experienced hams swear you don't need them.  I read somewhere, an MFJ catalog I think, that you can buy a 1:1 current balun to replace the center insulator of a dipole antenna to help eliminate RF on the feedline and RF in the shack.  Runs about $24.00 I think.   Is this the right device, a "current balun?" 


Thanks everyone for all the help.  I'll have to rearrange things now and get working on the grounding.
