1] Now that we are in the Hurricane season and also some severe weather
patterns from time to time & with the advent of a possible flooding, you
might want to make sure that your gas cans for your generators are full! A
lot of us have underground cables supplying our AC power, but sometimes some
of these units are prone to flood.
2] Also, if you have any doors or windows to your house that are at exact
street level, you might want to get some (3 mil) green plastic sheeting and
cover the openings all the doors and windows from top to bottom and securing
it with heavy duty duct tape. Make sure that the tape and the sheeting is
attached to whatever type of siding/brick/wood that surrounds the either the
door or window, as the water pushing against the sheeting will seal it
better. Also make sure that all of the objects are DRY before trying to get
the tape to stick. This will also work for garage doors, tape the plastic
at the bottom of the door to the cement or asphalt!
3] For those of you that are lucky enough to have "HAM" radio towers, you
might want to check that your guy cables either screwed in or in cement, and
make sure that they have plenty of run-off around them. You could construct
a U-shaped dirt berm so that the water will not collect there.
4] Speaking of antennas - HAM or otherwise mounted on your roof or tower,
make sure that they are disconnected or grounded during a thunder storm.
