Colleagues = KB3ISK and KA3DYL are collaborating with Volunteer
Frederick to bring you these two offerings:
---------------------NIMS/ICS Class---------------------
SouthBEARS, the communications arm of the Southern Baptist Disaster
Relief Ministries, will be hosting a NIMS/ICS class at Faith Baptist
Church, 2212 Jefferson Pike, Knoxville MD 21758 on Monday, February
26, 2007. [take the Petersville exit off US-340]
Class starts at 7:00PM and should conclude by 10:00PM. The course
will consist of an overview of the National Incident Management
System (IS700) and the Incident Command System (IS100), both courses
required by [Homeland Security Presidential Directive Number Five -
HSPD-5 and offered through] FEMA for NIMS/ICS Compliance.
All [emergency volunteers in the USA, including Amateur Radio Emergency
Service - ARES], Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES), South-
BEARS Operators, and MRC/VRC/VMC volunteers should either take this
class on line from FEMA or attend the classroom version offered here.
Class size is limited to 20 students and there will be a $2.00 course
fee (to cover copying materials).
Registration is being handled by Volunteer Frederick. To register phone
or email Lisa Orr (Phone: 301.663.5214)
email: <lisaorr at volunteerfrederick.org>
Fax: 301.663.0355
Please register before Thursday, February 22, 2007. The $2 fee per
person is payable at the door.
-----------------------Tech to General Course---------------------
Hopefully, everyone is aware that Morse Code is no longer required to
upgrade your Technician Class Amateur Radio License to General Class.
Remember, your Tech license allows you to use tactical range VHF and
UHF equipment. The General license allows you to be control operator
for the worldwide HF bands that are so important in disaster
communications.
SouthBEARS is working on a easy upgrade class. Our goal will be a two
Saturday class most likely held at Faith Baptist in Frederick County
(on MD Route 180 between Jefferson and Brunswick), with the test
offered at the end of the second day of class. We are looking for
instructors and the all-important ARRL / VE's.
Our target date is Saturday, March 17 and 24. The class will take
both days with a review and test on the second day. We are expecting
to use Gordon West's textbook. Cost is expected to be around $20 for
the book and class, $14 for the test (ARRL fee).
Please Note:
THIS IS IN THE PLANNING STAGES ONLY AT THIS TIME. DATES, TEXT AND
EVERYTHING ELSE RELATED TO THIS CLASS IS CURRENLY SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
