2007 SCOUTING JAMBOREE-ON-THE-AIR ("JOTA")
[ You are receiving this email because you have either
helped out with this event before or expressed a
desire to participate. If you are no longer
interested please let me know and I will gladly remove
your name from my mailing list. ]
With your help I would again this year like to setup a
scouting Jamboree On-The-Air ("JOTA") event in Boyds.
As before, the event is open to all Montgomery County
area Cub Scouts, and Boy and Girl Scouts, and their
families. I will send out an invitation to all area
Packs and Troops once it appears that there is
sufficient interest from the local ham community to
run the event.
Please REPLY to this email and let me know one way or
the other if you are interested. Also please let me
know if you can bring any radio equipment and/or
antennas, any pop-up canopies and one or two
generators (although we should have access to
electricity near the building).
I would suggest that you REPLY to me, rather than the
group - that way the amount of email traffic to the
others will be minimized. I will update those who
have indicated an interest, once I get sufficient
responses.
This year the event will be held at the same location
as last year, on the grounds outside of Boyds
Presbyterian Church, 19901 White Ground Road, Boyds,
MD 20841 (take Clopper Road toward Boyds, MD; Clopper
Road becomes White Ground Road [MD-121] ), on
Saturday, October 20, 2007, from 10:00 am until 3:00
pm. It will be held rain or shine, with set-up to
begin at 8:00 AM, and break-down should be completed
by 5:00PM).
This "field-day" type event provides a unique
opportunity for scouts to talk over the radio to other
Scouts from all over the country and the world and
exchange their scouting experiences. As you may know,
since 1958 when the first Jamboree-on-the-Air was
held, millions of Scouts have met each other through
this worldwide event.
Any scout, scout leader, ham radio operator or member
of the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club who would like to
help out at this public service event or would like
more information, should contact Sal D'Alessio at
(301) 916-1899 (evenings) or via email at
t125sal-jota07 at yahoo.com
The ARRL has a website with 2006 JOTA information:

P.S. Please feel free to forward this to anyone who
you think may be interested in participationg.
