There's only one way to solve that "mandatory work" situation and  you know 
what that is.
 
I worked EVERY holiday in the year for over 18 years at the Kennedy  Space 
Center installing hardware, software etc. and it was  all "mandatory". Try and 
explain that to the wife and kids.
