NOTE: I tried to change the subject/thread of this message but the FADCA
reflector sez it is spam! So here it is again
It originally went to Mike Harper (Ocala ROSE) and Dan KA0OXH (Clermont
Manger)
(I Changed the subject and moved this thread to FADCA e-mail reflector)
Mike - to bring you up to date..
The 223.42 frequency is no longer in use at Daytona Beach or DeLand. We now
have a test node (X1-J) at Clermont and need to have a dedicated backbone to
Ocala. A UHF frequency for that will be hard to do at Clermont due to
co-located UHF repeater and two coordinated UHF backbones (to Tampa and
Orlando). 220 is the band of choice primarily because there is 220 at
Ocala. That said, an antenna for 220 at Clermont may be hard to come by
early on as the antenna density at that site rivals that anyplace! Har.
A 220 beam at Ocala pointed to Clermont might help... but we'll have to see
just what Dan KA0OXH (Clermont site manager) can come up with for antenna
space at Clermont.
We really do need to get a backbone going north from Clermont for sure!
Ultimately we'd like to have that at 9.6kb... most backbone links are headed
for 9.6kb.
Good to hear from you.

220 would work grreat from here. It was originally installed to link to
the Gainesville rose switch at Shands Hospital on 220, but it never worked
very well. As fas as I know, the 220 switch here just sits idle with no one
to talk to. Perhaps on a different frequency to a different area it would
work much better. Let me know if you want to change freqs.

Dan, due to the other devices at your site, and the need to try to get a
link to Ocala working again, I suggested 200 to avoid interference with the
other devices. I had earlier suggested a 445 but with you repeaters that did
not seem possible. I knew there was a 220 at Ocala, so, when Bud included a
blank next to Clermont to Ocala, I suggested 220.
Dan the link would be to Ocala. Not sure where the "summerville" came in?
I don't have anything in the database for Summerville. I have a Citrus
Springs listed to K4GBB.
I have added Mike Harper in Ocala who has a 223.42 ROSE switch. And
Charles, K4GBB, to the discussion.
Dan, I am pretty sure Mike's 223.42 Rose Switch is a 1200 bps switch. I
will let Mike and Charles let us know for sure.
We have not had a workable link to Ocala at any data rate for years. Bud
used to hear them from time to time. 223.42 is not the best frequency. It
would be better off of that frequency. However, if the decision to change is
made, I can offer some alternative frequencies to avoid interference.
(If we wamt higher speed, I floated a suggestion a few weeks ago that we
explore getting a 219 high speed link in but was phooey as "to expensive"
"didn't fit in our plan' but I still think we should try.)

Bud,
I already have a mitrek crystalled up on 441.050 mhz, so we have a spare
pair of rocks. I will get up to the Clermont site this week and get the
antenna swapped so the 441.050 points toward Orlando. Probably will wait
until we have the link in place to the Orlando LAN before I change the 2
meter LAN freq in Clermont.
Russ,
There are no antennas for 220 packet at the Clermont site, I might try a
mag mount in the window of the equipment room. Is the station in Summerville
already on 220 @ 1200 baud? We need to at least use 2400 baud, if we use
220. An extra radio, TNC, etc is not worth the effort to backbone traffic
from 1200 baud to another 1200 baud giving no improvement in speed. I may
have an extra 2400 baud modem for/with a MFJ TNC but let me double check in
my garage.
Thanks,
Dan

Bud you are correct. I had suggested a frequency for Clermont to
Ocala, but I have not heard back from Charles in Ocala and I think Dan had
difficulty with my suggestion due to the repeater at the same location on
UHF.
It may be that the link from Clermont to Ocala will need to be on 220.
I am not sure there still is thinking of a Arcadia to Clermont link if
there is a Bartow.
I have not heard anything from Arcadia regarding the questions I posed
or the suggested frequency range.

Sunday
Russ/Dan- We agreed to change the 441.05 now between ORL/DeLand to
430.250. Then we would use 441.05 between Orlando and Clermont (rather than
the 430.550). That makes the links across central Florida look like this
which is the last table I sent on this topic.
From To Current Suggested
Daytona Deland 440.050 440.050 No
Change
Deland Orlando 441.050 430.250
Orlando Clermont 430.550 441.050
Orlando Melbourne 446.125
Clermont Bartow 446.350 430.550
Clermont Ocala
Clermont Arcadia
Bartow Tampa 430.250 446.350
Now.. I'll have to purchase two sets of 430.250 crystals rather than
one set of 446.350, and will have a 441.050 set left w/o a home. Dan, can
you use the 441.05 in a Mitrek on your end of the Orlando/Clermont link? How
do we work this out w/o having too many extra crystals?
Or have I missed something?
Russ: check that table over again for all my links! Thanks.
Dan- are there any other crystals you want to put in with this FADCA
order I'm putting together?
