Rich,
I am familiar with some of the Toshiba stupidity, seems that they
use some video stuff that is a pain to set up, but as long as you
keep it text only you will have no problem. For this app we do NOT
want GUI just text and in that case we have not got a problem. I
have text systems running on several Satellites with no problem.
If you want to test machines out go and download these two distros,
Knoppix
www.knoppix.org
Mepis
www.mepis.org
Burn the CD's They have a demo that runs off of the CD, appears to
ID most video in most machines. The Knoppix does better than the
Mepis, but both are very good. Both are based on Debian which is a
very good distro and is the most amateur friendly probably because
many of the Debian team are also amateurs.
I am getting into the habit of carrying around these two CD's and
sticking them into CD's and booting up the computer just to see how
well it will run. (go Bestbuy or Computer City and do it, you will
get a real crowd and also find out who the LINUX guys are at the
store)
