Virgil,
First. get the latest version from the Winlink web site and install it. It
is 1.0.22. I don't know if that is a problem but I cannot easily go back and
debug an older version.
Some suggestions:
1) Make sure the TNC is set for terminal mode and a fixed baud rate (not
auto baud). Get that working with a dumb terminal program first. You should
be able to do some basic commands from the dumb terminal.
2) Then make sure you are set to the correct baud rate in Telpac. You should
use RTS/CTS (do you have that wired in the cable?...no simple 3 wire cables)
3) Check the log init option in the debug settings to try and log the TNC
responses upon initialization. It actually sounds like you are not getting
any response from the TNC.
4) Make sure the .aps file is good. If in doubt try my example for the KPC3
(you will have to rename the file). Then if that works start modifying it
for your own settings. That file has worked successfully on my KPC3. If in
doubt send me your .aps file as an attachment.
5) The other and actually preferred option is to use the AGWPE and run the
KPC3 in KISS mode. This setup is more involved but ultimately more reliable.
There is a complete appendix in the Telpac installation notes on how to set
this up.

Subject: [FADCA] Re: Telpac Setup
I am trying to setup TELPAC Ver. 1.0.19 on my Dell, ME 2000. I am using a
Kantronics KPC3.
I have built the Banner file and the APS file.
On the setup screen I have the following;
Com Port #1
Length 8
parity none
stop 1
Flow RTS/CTS
TNC KPC3
IP Connection Full (DSL)
TNC Check shows TNC Com OK
Initialize Screen I get the following:
Initializing Com 1
Initializing TNC KPC3
Reading Parameter Settings
Saving settings
Reading APS file
Command 8bitcon ON
At this point the system freezes up and I have to restart the computer.
I have set the TNC to Kiss Mode and also to terminal mode. I have 8bitcon on
and off nothing seems to help.
I have spent all day going thru the setup and testing and found nothing that
seems to help.
Anyone have any suggestions?
