Today Paul, N4WKQ, Charlie, N3PPC, and I paid a visit to the DAB site =
where the switch had been totally silent for 10 days.

Not much of a problem - the 110v AC line plug had been pulled from the =
socket!

Why?- well, of course, the 223.420 port was obliterating CH24 on the =
building CATV system! Naw.. don't fret that we've been using 222.nnn =
for five years, then 223.420 there for the last six years - the first =
four of which at 100w out, then down to 20w... no reason to think the =
CATV cable might have leaks or unterminated RX nodes... just turn the =
damned thing off!=20

While there we installed a UHF beam for the future backbone to DeLand =
(in place of the 220 link, thank you very much), and installed new ROSE =
EPROMs in the TNCs to reflect a change in CALL SIGN AND NNPAX CODES.

For anyone (or switches) making direct connects to the DAB ROSE switch- =
change all N4EEB-n to N4WKQ-n, and change all 904nnn to 386nnn and all =
should be okay.=20

On the way home Charlie and I made the appropriate changes in the =
386335.cfg and .cnf files at DeLand, while Paul uploaded routing tables =
to the new DAB ROSE switch.

Preliminary testing from Paul's QTH and from my QTH indicate all is now =
functioning.

NOTE: To keep peace and not raise eyebrows of building management, =
Charlie and I will expedite the changeover from 220 to UHF for the =
backbone between DAB and DeLand. We may even change it out to 1200b =
within the week, then move to 9.6kb later as was the original plan.

Yeah, I know.. if there is a leak in the CATV cable it is the cable =
manager's problem.. but we can't risk losing that site... 19 stories on =
the beach! Too much commercial/pecuniary interest there.

73,
bud N0IA

Hi, Paul=20

Will try this again! Here is the data I dug up from some previous =
e-mails.

Unless Charlie comes up with a problem, we'll be on hand at DAB no later =
than 0930 Tuesday. Will make contact with you on the 147.15 DAB =
repeater.

I'll try an make a phone call up there Monday to clear our visit.

NOTE: When 9.6kb is ready, the "UHFsoon" columns at DeLand and DAB =

To add the new "fourth port" uhf antenna, the existing uhf beam will =
need to be relocated from the south mast, which it shares with the 220 =
vertical and vhf CAP beam. It will go to the north mast, which supports =
the 2m LAN 4-bay vertical. We'll use the heavy duty clamps I asked you =
to save from the Hugh Ash Manor site to facilitate attatching a small =
mast (1.25" - 1.50") to the largish (3.0" +) north support mast. The KLM =
uhf beam will not attatch directly to that large mast, it's too big. We =
can just shorten the existing feedline.=20

=20

=20

To mount the new fourth port uhf beam we'll need to remove the unused =
CAP beam (Cushcraft 3-ele) and put the new uhf beam in it's place. We =
can use the existing feedline, which is terminated at the antenna with a =
UHF connector. Either change connectors or use an adaptor to connect to =
the N connector on the uhf beam.=20

  Subject: Missing "old data"

  Hi Bud-

Whatever it was you sent to me, or thought you sent to me, concerning =
the "old data" you dug up wasn't included in or attatched to your last =
email.

Phone number for 89 Ocean Blvd (DAB Rose site building) is 672-5333 =
(that's the office number).
I don't rcall the name of the "new" gal that's running the office =
nowadays. If I did learn it, I appearently didn't write here name down =
anywhere that I can find in my scattered notes.

For antenna relocation, besides the one or two heavy duty clamps taken =
from the HAM antenna project, we'll need a short length of pipe =
(aluminum or galv. steel) to mount the 16 ele KLM uhf beam to (not sure, =
but I think it can accomodate up to either 1.25 or 1.5 inch OD pipe =
size, the pipe it's on now is at leat 1.25"). For the new uhf beam =
you'll be supplying, I'm assuming it will require an N type connector. =
We'll need to either install an N connector on the existing coax that =
now feeds the CAP vhf beam (which we'll use to feed the uhf beam pointed =
at Deland) or use a UHF to N adaptor.

I'd suggest to shoot for 9:30 - 10:00am, as we won't be able to get in =
before 9:00am.

  73, Paul N4WKQ
