Hi, Evans, in fact there had been quite a bit of activity on that very
subject. Not sure why you might not have seen it.

What equipment are you using, how did you set it up and how does it work?
Can you describe the range, data rate, etc? Height of antenna? Is your
antenna outside or inside? Do you have a bridge to another site or is your
wap.11 equipment serving as a access point to the wired world at one site?

Several have discussed how many it would take to cover a certain area and
there was discussion on inter-LAN bridging. There is interest but there
seems to be a lack of energy. What we need is synergy.

I am in NE Florida SW of Jacksonville. Our population is not as dense as
central Florida or the S.E coastal areas.

I have a voice repeater site that is miles from the nearest ADSL service but
I would like to have access to the internet at the site on a connection
faster than a dial up. It is approximately 16 miles from my home. There is a
nearby hospital that I have been trying to get the local ham club to allow
the installation of 2.4 Ghz antennas and possibly some 5.8 antennas for a
bridge. I am going to try to get them interested by colocating an access
point witht their echo linked UHF repeater - maybe that will interest them.
I think, however, that I would have the best results as far as the length of
the bridge if I bridged on 2.4Ghz. The two location are line of sight to
each other and the hospital is line of sight to down town Jacksonville where
I have access to a high site. The Jacksonville site is within view of the
Red Cross Chapter and 5 (possibly 6) of the major hospitals in the area. I
would like to see these sites supporting wireless LANS as well as serving as
sites for bridging equipment.

What are your thoughts?

Russ, N4KOX
