In 1960 Joe Kittinger jumped from an altitude of 19.47 miles (102,800feet), setting several world records.  In 2012 Felix Baumgartner, an Austrian skydiver, daredevil and BASE jumper set the new world records for skydiving at an estimated 24 mi, reaching an estimated speed of 843.6 mph or Mach 1.25, on 14 October 2012.  He became the first person to break the sound barrier unassisted on his descent.  This video was recorded using GoPro cameras.  The video quality is phenomenal.  Take a look.
