But these DC-DC converters are not 100% efficient, I'd bet no more than 
90%, and as has been observed by me and others, the difference between 
80 and 100 W is slightly less than 1 dB, which is 1/6 of an S-unit! And 
90% efficiency means you're wasting 10% of your battery.

I've been running my station on a 100Ah Bioenne LiFePO4 battery for ten 
years, float charged by a re-purposed Thinkpad PSU through a Genasun 
MPPT charge regulator. The voltage indicated on my K3 and K4 during 
heavy contesting has never dropped below 12.5V under load, and that's 
with a protection diode between the battery and the rig's voltmeter, so 
the battery's always above 13V.
