[Elecraft] Parts swappers -- is this a real "thing"

Personally, I think it's a fallacy that hams are any more fundamentally
honorable than the average person.  We have enough evidence of cheating
in contests to know that.  And if NK7Z (an active buyer/seller of ham
gear) says he doesn't trust hams who use the parts swapping excuse to
refuse returns, that's telling as well.

Hams aren't any worse than any other group of humans, but I think any of
us should use the same care in a purchase from a ham that we would from
anyone else.

I’m sure it’s happened on rare occasions, but I’ve bought and sold a lot gear on qth.com, and a few other places, over the years and I’ve found the vast majority of hams to be honest. I have dealt with a few scammers, but that’s a different issue. They are invariably non-hams who are posing as hams. In all the time I’ve engaged in online trading of ham gear, I’ve only run into one dishonest ham, but he seemed to be suffering from some kind of mental disorder. If you insist on being paid via PayPal you’ll be protected. That’s my two cents worth. — 73 de Carl
