I've built and operated three of them.  Never heard the noise described.
Indeed, one of the features I like most - apart from the builds, which were
all great experiences - is the audio.  My KX3 and K3+ are more capable
radios in numerous ways.  But the K2s were all more comfortable to spend an
evening with.  Buy the heavy after-market VFO knob, if you can find one.
Two of my K2s have been sold and I miss them both.  The third I'll be taking
with me.  Wherever.
