Don,
     You are correct it works fine this way. I do it that way. Only one 
suggestion, use VOX. once tone is on the radio goes into transmit rather 
nicely. I do this for all the digital modes and have run into no 
problems. Once Elecraft added the internal sound card it really made 
operating easier.
