In amateur radio, a dynamic desk mic is a relatively low output device.

Dynamic mics produce (very roughly) 20 dB less output voltage than
capacitor mics, and desk mics are typically used further from the
operator's mouth than other types.

Use the extra gain and don't worry. It's perfectly normal.
