Don's last suggestion and link is almost certainly answers the problem. Having owned two K3's in that serial range, I had the exact same issue with both. Both had the tin connectors. Replaced both with Elecraft supplied gold and no problems since. Elecraft will likely give you the gold connectors. With the earlier rigs, it's not a question of "if", it's when!
