Dan,

It would appear that the wrong part was packaged - but re-check U2 to be 
certain it is not the LM380.  The parts are *not* compatible as you have 
surmised.
Send a request for the LM380N-8 (PN E600019) to parts at elecraft.com and 
you should receive the proper part.
