[Elecraft] K3; using 'freeDV' digital voice software

FWIW, I made my first digital voice contact on HF with a VE3 today. Due to the cold temps, I could not rotate my beam so the signal was weak and the QRM was strong.

I was not sure if I had my soundcard settings correct, so I only used 10 watts. He used 25. At one point we tried analog and could only partially copy each other in the qrm, yet the digital worked fairly well. At times, the conditions were such that we lost sync, but for the most part, the copy was much more dependable than analog. The best part is, the copy is noise free.

It is a work in progress, and I'm impressed with how well it did work considering the conditions. As I said in a previous post, it only uses 1.1 KHz bandwidth on SSB.

If only Elecraft would incorporate it into the K3 so we wouldn't need a computer.
It would be a great add-on.
