Hi Merv,
I can't speak of CODAR operation specifically, BUT the Seasonde operation
by the University of Oregon does -not- operate in the amateur bands. Our RV
was parked within a hundred feet of the equipment for months at a time. My
IC-756PII on 20M -did- suffer a bit from overload by the 12 MHZ TX. They
are
FCC-incensed for specific frequencies and I seriously doubt / know that
they
would jeopardize their license(s). The Oregon TX's are 100W output, BTW.
The Seasonde operation is interesting. In the five years we spend with the
Oregon State Parks folks I got to know the techs who serviced the equipment.
One installation (Beachside State Park) had -hundreds- of feet of RG58
feeding
the antenna, which was located far from the equipment. The losses had to be
awful! One the other hand, the antenna at the Yaquina Head lighthouse is
mounted directly atop the outhouse building beside the parking lot. (:-)
73!
