Quite true, but if you want to avoid a TUNE operation unexpectedly, you need
to check to make sure by transmitting in each segment. As Ian says, if it
finds a good SWR it won't do a TUNE but store those setting in the current
bin as well.

("Bin" is programmer speak for frequency "segment" in my original post.)

You don't have to fill every bin, actually - the firmware will search for
bins to either side of the frequency you're on, and if it finds one nearby
with stored settings, it will try to use those.
