Rick,
I have a KX3. I use it with the ATU and without. There is a menu item that let's you bypass the tuner if you don't need or want it. I have found that it is a really a good tuner as it has tuned everything I've ever tried.
My station is setup with an MFJ intellituner. When I use the MFJ, I bypass the ATU in the KX3 without a problem, generally. The reason I say generally is if the SWR is really high the KX3 starts to fold back power such that there is too little kick off the MFJ. I suspect that this will happen with the SGC tuner. What you will need to do is up the power to 10 watts so that you will have enough power. Other than the power fold back, everything works FB.

Barry

Subject: [Elecraft] KX3 with external coupler
I am thinking of ordering the KX3 tonight. I will most likely order it with
all accys. I have looked through the manual and some archives and would
like to verify one thing and ask about another.
First is the built in ATU. It looks like it can be set to bypass even if
the atu is instaled. Am I correct in this assumption ? The other is ...has
anyone used the KX3 with a coupler such as the SGC
models. I really enjoy using the SGC as my antennas at home are limited and
for portable use it makes for a easy setup. Thanks in advance...W8ZT
