I have wondered about these DC-DC converters too but haven't tried one to see if they pass the EMI/EMC test and not jam the radio, (remove the need to have an antenna to pick up signals - hi). Seriously has anyone tried one. Using a buck/boost converter it really frees-up a range of batteries for power.
