I think I'll locate - or fabricate- some thumbscrews (like the KXPD3) so I can more rapidly remove the access cover and lessen the temptation to leave cells in there.

An effective but truly inelegant method is to run a screw through a wingnut. You may need to file the screwhead a bit to reduce the diameter or file clearance for the screwhead on the wingnut. If you use brass components, a little solder will preclude loosening of the wingnut from the screw.
Less awful is to use an Allen socket-head screw and the little
plastic "thingies" (hi!) that press over the tops and convert the Allen head screws into thumbscrews.
The DC-to-Gamma Rays antenna was a dipole marketed under the
"MaxRad" name.
Many years ago, "miracle" antenna was a derogatory term used
in the phrase: "If it works, it is a miracle."
On this side of the pond, "Miracle Whip" is the trade name for
a mayonnaise substitute marketed by Kraft Foods.
Of all the brands of alkaline batteries I've used in gear, with the exception of no-name Chinese "hamfest specials" the worst are Ray-O-Vac which I've had leak in their unopened packaging.. years away from the expiration date.
