[Elecraft] freq drift/front end KX3

1) i was trying to set up a dipole antenna to get my first QSO. i was on 
40 m and as i was tinkering with my head ]phones
  i noticed that i had a 0.1 drift on the LCD readout VFOA. the readout 
had dropped by that much.. in fact it did more then once. i would tune 
to a freq, and then listen (not touching anything) and without any other 
change it would drift by itself???

2) another item. i removed all wires etc from the radio, and found that 
there was a lot of noise. even my buddy, who has been a ham for many 
years wondered what was happening. and what is happening.

thought i would ask the gurus here if they know what is going on?
