[Elecraft] Found this on Facebook this morning... KPA800??

Hello Lou,
I think elecraft does pick up the right market segment for KPA500. The amplifier is conservatively designed and ready to give a bit more output. It is not too far away from the KPA800.
500 W is also marketable world wide. Legal limit in quite a number of former British colonies (like VR2) is still 400W though I know some hams do not care about this.
1.5kw amplifer will belong to another price tag and another market segment. I wonder, in term of profitability (i.e profit margin x trade volume), KPA500 could be a good performer.

Lou,
These early amp prototypes were a real learning experience for us. Our staff did an excellent job, and they worked very well. However, after sizing up the costs and risks, we decided to enter the market with something smaller (K3-size) featuring a zero-noise (linear) power supply based on a toroidal transformer. 500-600 W seemed like an ideal target, and there you have it: the KPA500.
I certainly wouldn't rule out other amps in the future.
Speaking of which, the upcoming KXPA100, our 100-W amp for the KX3 and other QRP rigs, draws extensively from the KPA500 design. We hope it will be the best-performing and most rugged 100-W-class amplifier available.
