 Don,

It sounds like you have it receiving. In case you don't: No interface is
necessary, and things are simpler if you don't use one. Just connect line
out on the back of the K3 to mic in, and line in to speaker out.

Once you get it receiving, it's time to transmit. The first thing is to get
PTT to work, which apparently is where you are stuck.

In WSPR, set PTT method to DTR. Set PTT port to the Com port that you are
using to connect the K3 to your computer. Ignore CAT for the moment.

Save the setup and put WSPR into idle. Set the transmit slider to 5%; this
will make test transmissions 5 seconds long.

Put the K3 in USB mode, and press Tune. The K3 should go into transmit. If
not, the DTR line is not getting to the K3 for whatever reason. If it
doesn't work, at least you know where the problem lies. In my case, the
USB/serial port adapter I'm using delivers signals over DTR and RTS.
Hopefully, yours will as well.

Once you have PTT working, go back and set up CAT. The only thing CAT does
with WSPR is set the K3's frequency correctly in response to a band change
on the WSPR console. This is easy to test, and if it doesn't work, no harm:
just set the frequency by hand to the value shown in the Dial: box.

When you get to this point, the only thing remaining is to set levels. Set
the computer's Mic level for 0 db received noise when the green Receiving
light is on, and the computer's Speaker level so that ALC shows 3-4 bars but
never 5. You will probably have to set the K3's Configure>Line In to a low
number, maybe 003 or so.

HTH!
