Hi Phil (WA7URV),
Click on start.
In the typing window that has "search" etc in it, type "device
manager" without the quotes. This brings up a Device Manager window.
Look down the list to the line "Ports (COM & LPT)". Double click on
it to expose all the COM and LPT devices. Leave this window open in
this state.
See if your device is listed. If not, uplug the USB/serial cable.
Then install the drivers. When they are done, plug in the USB/serial
cable. You should get a recognition of new hardware, there should be
some activity going on, and before long you should see a new com port
come up under "Ports (COM & LPT) in the device manager window. The
com port that is listed will be what your Elecraft utilities should be
directed to use.
One of mine comes up as "Gigaware USB to Serial Cable (COM4)" The
line is there when it is plugged in and not there when it's not.
73, Guy.

Upon getting into the computer's Device Manager I don't see such a folder, and I can't find the "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port listing . I've looked through all the other folders in the Device Manager; no luck.
