  Mike,

Logic should be inserted.  The instructions do include a step to 
"Reinstall the top and bottom covers" on page 8.
That would logically include plugging in the speaker, and if installed, 
the KAT2 and KIO2 as well before screwing the top cover in place.  There 
are times when a few bit of logic must be inserted.  Yes, if you want 
the speaker to work, logic says that you must plug it into the same 
place from which it was removed.
