[Elecraft] K2 serial interface debug

[TI2/NA7U]

I have two K2s (one for casual, one for dress . Both have the serial I/O
unit. One works fine the other not so much. The one with the problem is not
working with Fldigi (using any of the CAT interfaces). No commands appear to
be flowing in either direction. I actually don't know if the serial I/O ever
worked on that K2 as this is the first time I've tried it. 

Can someone just give me a debug strategy and some tips to help diagnose it?
