[Elecraft] TV and computer interferencies - K3's fault ?

Computers should not be affected by transmitter faults. TVs used to be,
but assuming you have UHF TV, that is less likely these days. Pure
cable TV should not be affected by all but extreme faults.

The problem is most likely to be a combination of poor (read cost
cutting) design in the affected equipment and your use of a transmit
power that is too high given the location of the antenna. In the case
of the TV, design in the equipment may include the use of an
inappropriate antenna given the (lack of) strength of signals in the
area. The location of the antenna may include its general closeness,
but could also include things like running parallel to critical wiring.

Note that consumer electronics doesn't have to be completely immune to
nearby radio transmitters; that would be impossible and legislation will
make a big tradeoff between cost and immunity. Intentional receivers,
like TVs will be particularly vulnerable, even for out of band
transmissions.

If you place it close enough, even the less than one watt from a PMR 446
transmitterhalf watt can upset consumer electronics (and even the
Elecraft K2).

I would hope all of this was covered by the Portuguese amateur radio
examinations.
