[Elecraft] New MAC owner - dumb question about installing K3 utility

Grant,

You are right about the help folder and the K3 utility -- in my own personal case, I actually made a copy of the help folder so the K3 utility access still works. In the case of the K3 utility, I like the more direct visibility to all the help pages offered by a more visible folder location for reading through everything on the first go around.

The one benefit of keeping things together for these types of apps, is that if you ever want to uninstall it, all you have to do is drag the whole folder to the trash. If you arbitrarily move things around, then you are left with "leavings" on your hard drive that won't go to the trash with the app and which you will undoubtedly forget you have stashed away somewhere. Not that anyone would ever want to uninstall the K3 utility :-)

Although it is customary to place applications (executable bundles) in the system Applications folder, they can actually be put anywhere you want. Often I will put things in other locations just for the convenience of managing files -- often the Applications folder can get quite big.
