The typical cost to take a parts order and ship a part at Ameritron, back in
the 1980's, was about $20. That does not include the shipping fees, just the
overhead to take an order, pick the part, pack the part, and do the shipping
labels, handle the invoice or paperwork.
Shipping small low cost parts is a service to customers, not a moneymaker.
Hams don't realize the bargains they get on parts and equipment.
Imagine the handling expenses, that would include expenses for inspecting
returned parts, that would go with swapping out a part. Plus the new radios
sold, if returned parts were installed, would contain used parts. Not a good
idea at all.
