[Elecraft] Help needed with K3 utility/install issues

Craig:

I'm the K3 Utility author.

The diagnostic indicates that there is corruption of the data stream between
the PC and the K3, and during save/restore configuration the utility is not
at all forgiving (I can't store corrupt data and lie and say it was OK).

If you are using a USB to Serial Adapter, please try changing the K3's
RS-232 speed to 38400 bps, which is often the most reliable speed (I know
this is counterintuitive).

If this fails to improve the situation, please try a different cable; remove
any devices (hubs and extensions) between the PC and K3 Utility.

The "Power on Banner" caption on the message box is a bug, I've fixed the
caption to say "Save Configuration" in subsequent versions of the K3 Utility
(that are still in field test).

Subject: [Elecraft] Help needed with K3 utility/install issues

I'm trying to update to the latest release level firmware. I first
downloaded the newest install utility. This download and install went fine,
and the new version of the utility runs fine and communicates with my K3.
Before downloading the newer firmware, I thought I would first save my
present K3 configuration. This is where I have a problem. When I try to
save the configuration, I get an error message as follows: "Power On Banner
Error - K3 Get command failed to return the expected response after several
attempts".

So I can't save my configuration. Before this, I did type something into
the banner field, but I'm running 2.02 firmware in the K3, so of course it
wouldn't yet display. I tried to save the configuration several times with
the same result. I also tried removing and re-downloading the utility
program, but made no difference.

So I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. Really would like to save my
configuration before downloading the 3.11 level firmware.

       What should I do next??

               Thanks and 73 Craig AC0DS
