[Elecraft] K3 1.0 KHz filter for CW - Needed?

And - remember you can set the filter to engage at a different DSP  width.  
Since the roofing filter has a fairly wide skirt you might want it  to engage 
earlier.   For example, I have my 500hz filter engage when  the DSP is at 
750hz.  That way, I get the roofing advantage earlier but can  still hear signals 
in the DSP passband.

Alternatively you might want the  roofer to engage later.  I can see not 
engaging the 1khz filter until you  got the DSP down below 1khz.

With the selectivity the K3 has the 1k filter  opens up just enough to
allow you not to miss weak stations while moving the  vfo up and down
the band.  That's what I use it for.
