Jeff, the 1.8Khz roofing filter is very usable (preferred) in contest condx,
but you will have to adjust the shift downwards for maximum intelligibility
as you narrow the bandwidth.
In ssb contests, I usually just set width narrow, adjust shift and leave the
K3 there for the entire contest.
