Ron,
I'm not familiar with the Conexant audio device. However, many laptops
do not have a stereo input such as a Line In. The microphone input is
usually mono. You are going to need the stereo/line-in input in order
to have the SDR work correctly. If you don't have such an input on your
laptop you will need an external USB audio adapter. I am using the
SoundBlaster X-Fi USB with my HP laptop.
As a side note, I have added the Clifton Labs buffer amplifier (X-10000
?) to my K2 and am using one of the SoftRock Lites tailored for the K2
for a panadaptor. Yes, I realize that the K2 doesn't provide an IF
output, but I found that a K2-owner in Germany had tapped in to the K2
IF and had published the description (in German, naturally). I think I
have a translation of the article around here somewhere if anyone is
interested.
