[Elecraft] Elecraft 70cm transverter, K3 and repeater access tones?

Dear group,

I'm curious as to how this would work.  Say I have an Elecraft 70cm
transverter connected to my K3.  I'm assuming that if I wanted to use the
transverter to communicate with UHF repeaters I would select the transverter
via band button, set the mode to FM and select proper tone, set power output
on the transverter to 10w or less, and the transverter will do the rest?
I've never used a transverter before, so I apologize if my question is a
stupid one.
