Was experimenting late at night with multiple antenna switches, switching
an amplifier in and out of line, etc, when I inadvertently transmitted CW @
100W through a combination of switches that resulted in no antenna at all
being connected.
Urghh. After two or three seconds of transmitting CW, dark smoke wafted up
from the top of the K3 cabinet.
I assumed that I had fried the final amplifiers, but after correctly
switching in an antenna, the rig went on working as if nothing had
happened.
Since that time I have worked domestic and DX, CW and SSB, no problem, full
output.
Anybody have any experience in this regard, any other tests I should make
other than looking at final output into a matched antenna? Any idea what I
could have cooked that didn't effect further operation?
best
Tim
