I meet that type of problem quite often on the training side. Its because
people don't stop and think and I include the tutors in that. You are
right because in your example the higher frequency is the one modulated.
Most taught examples have the modulated 'carrier' lower in frequency than
the VFO so the students only really see the case where the sidebands get
inverted. There is also a temptation by tutors to choose frequencies so
this does happen as a deliberate example. Problem is that they don't
then advise that this inversion does not always happen.
