Make sure Line Out in the K3 (CONFIG Menu) is set to 
NOR and with the level around 020.  Also make sure the 
cable with the female pigtail is connected to the Line 
out jack of the K3 (some early K3 cable sets had the 
Line Out and Line In labels reversed).
