That's just how the K2 works too. I run split 100% of the time and almost
never touch RIT with either the K2 or K3. 

For those of us who "cut our teeth" in Ham radio on separate transmitters
and receivers, it works just like they did. 

1) Tune around and find the frequency you want to transmit on. It might be
someone calling CQ or a clear spot to make a call. 

2) Hit A > B to load the frequency you've selected by tuning around into VFO
B. VFO  B sets the xmit frequency, just like when we set our Tx VFO on the
Rx frequency, only a lot faster. 

Now you can continue to tune around with the "big knob", but whenever you
xmit it'll be on the previously selected frequency in VFO B. 

At any time you want to move the TX freq to the one you're listening to,
just tap A>B again.

If you're working a pileup or other situation where I am listening and
transmitting on different frequencies, pushing REV allows me to "peek" at my
xmit frequency to make sure it's still clear. (Of course that'll be even
easier when the Subreceiver is available!) 

For me it's not like doing "sort of" RIT with the big knob, it makes RIT
unnecessary.

For those who would like to use the large VFO A knob as if it were RIT,
there's a setup just for you.

Once you have your base frequency (or RUN frequency in a contest) TAP A>B to
send the VFO A frequency to VFO B.  Then place the K3 into SPLIT mode.  Your
TX frequency will not change, but now you can tune your RX frequency with
the VFO A knob to tune in those stations calling who are slightly off
frequency.

In the CONFIG menu there's also a B>A function that you can assign to one of
the programable buttons.  This feature allows you to pick up your TX
frequency from VFO B to match your RX frequency on VFO A.
